People at odds

I find it very interesting that I find so many articles and advertising about "Go Green!" We don't want to pollute the planet. We don't want to use products with funny chemicals, etc, etc
Yet, I also find articles about protecting your kids from bacteria and other harmful substances. "One hand towel used multiple times. A single towel used just once." The disposable, sterilized and BPA-free Steri-Bottle. Sterile spring water in the disposable bottle. Etc, etc.
I have no problem with trying to keep waste down. I recycle. I don't, however, seek out "green" products. I also believe in hygiene and washing stuff. However, I also believe bacteria can help build a stronger immune system. We're all alive and well at my house, so I'm in no hurry to change my habits.
So, we're filling our landfills with products only used once? So, does their lower bacteria count make it worth it? Which do you follow?
