Teeth

Audrey has had a couple of run-ins lately with objects. She's hit her face on the back of Richard's head. She hit her face on something when she fell of the stool by our counter. It seems she also did something else. So, last night, I noticed her right front tooth is going gray. That means it's at least hurt if not dying. She doesn't complain of pain, but she will point to her tooth if you ask her if she has owies in her mouth. She eats and drinks fine. It moves slightly but doesn't look out of alignment.
I called the dentist today and he told me the only thing to do is wait and see what happens or do a root canal. She's 2 1/2, so she'd need general anesthesia. Plus, it's a baby tooth. I'm not paying for a root canal and putting her through all that. He said they're often not successful anyway. So, we'll wait and see what happens. She could just have a funny colored tooth until it falls out at a normal age. He said there's a chance it could get lighter again and kind of "heal" and then fall out normally. Or, it could become infected and then need to be pulled. For now we are just watching it to see what happens.

This happened to one of Aubrey's front teeth. She had cavities filled on them a year or so earlier, and they had to get close to the nerve endings. Anyways she bumped it on something and her tooth went gray as well. We took her to the dentist and they said some of the stuff your dentist said. It eventually just went away. But last year she bumped her mouth on Kadenece's head and one side of her face swelled (sp) up, the dr.'s daid she had a soft tissue bacterial infection, and after antibiotics it got better. Three weeks after that we took her for a cleaning at the dentist and he said her gums were infected above the front two teeth, so we ended up just getting them pulled, since she would have lost them eventually anyways. The one still hasn't grown in, but the other tooth gre back within 6 months. I don't think I would do a root canal on my little girl, especially since it is a baby tooth. Hope things are going good with the rest of your family. I love to keep up on your family, especially those babies. I don't know how you do it!!

my niece has the same thing. she's had a gray tooth for the last 2 years. it will eventually fall out, but hasn't really been much of an issue.
